Please read this book

I’ve always been a big reader especially on books about health and the food industry. I’ve read such books as Fast Food Nation, Omnivore’s Dilemma, Skinny Bitch and others I just can’t remember at this sitting. As sickening our food industry in America is, I just can’t get enough reading about it. Currently I’m reading an intriguing book called “The Unhealthy Truth: How our Food is Making us Sick and What We Can Do About It” by Robyn O’Brien. This true life story is about Robyn’s first hand experience into the dark world of the food industry after her children started experiencing allergic reactions to “normal” food like eggs and soy.

The story unfolds as Robyn realizes more and more how disgusting our food has become in America due to the fact that much of what we eat (packaged foods especially) is genetically modified and pumped full of hormones (non-organic meats, milk and eggs). If you look at other countries - they don’t even allow GMOs or hormones in their food. They said that GMOs would not be allowed to be fed to the public. But NOT America! In 1994 GMOs were introduced into our food supply. And now after 10+ years of these foods being fed to our children (who have more sensitive immune systems) we have seen allergic reactions to soy, eggs, and milk increase and now 1 in 3 American children has either allergies, ADHD, autism or asthma. Read more stats on Robyn’s website, AllergyKids.com. An excerpt description about her book is below…

O’Brien turns to accredited research conducted in Europe that confirms the toxicity of America’s food supply, and investigates the relationship between Big Food and Big Money that has ensured that the United States is one of the only developed countries in the world to allow hidden toxins in our food—toxins that are increasingly being blamed for the alarming recent increases in allergies, A.D.H.D., cancer, and asthma among our children.

I’ve heard the stories of Monsanto and how corrupt the FDA is, I’ve watched Food, Inc., read many books on this topic and made it a point to buy as many organic and locally grown foods as possible. But this story intrigues me much more than the other books I’ve read. An unlikely crusader; Robyn has become known as the Erin Brockovich of the food industry. Please read this book. If you have a family or just want to learn more about our Nation’s disheartening food industry, please pick it up and read it now. Do it for your family.

You can learn more about Robyn and her book here.

It’s been awhile

So it’s been awhile since I last posted here. I’ve had a handful of friends and followers ask me “are you still writing?” Why yes, yes I am! So here it goes…

A lot has happened in the last year. Jason and I bought our first place (an auction property) together in downtown. It’s a beautiful loft with 20 ft ceilings and a great view of Balboa Park and downtown. It’s in the Cortez Hill area of downtown San Diego.

In addition, Jason and I also said our “I Do’s” last October (10.9.10). We got married at the Marriott Marina on the beautiful San Diego Harbor. It was a perfect day. Literally perfect. I am absolutely in love and marriage is pure bliss. I married my best friend and soul mate. I am beyond overjoyed. Thank you Jason for being amazing.

With all of that going on, life is beautiful. My yoga practice has strengthened to the point that I’m deciding to get my yoga teacher certification this Fall at The Little Yoga Studio. This is going to be a wonderful time in my life to deepen my practice and pursue my passion for helping others through mental health and well-being. I’m excited for what’s to come…

Here are some pictures that capture the moments of our wedding (notice the Jimmy Choos I rocked!). I promise to keep writing and to bring my followers fun, engaging posts! I’m sorry for losing momentum on the writing front. I hope to stay more regular on my blogging!

A Summer’s Must Have: Molly B Bikinis!

I am just completely obsessed with a new San Diego-based line of swim suits, Molly B Bikinis. I was recently sent a few samples and can’t get enough of the unique cuts, fresh colors and darling details - this summer is going to be HAUTTE! :)

What’s even more amazing about this line and the designer, Molly B Goforth, is the origination - SAN DIEGO! What more perfect of a place to start a swimsuit line, than in one of the world’s most notorious beach regions? Molly grew up on the beaches of Southern California where it was “…forbidden to wear the same bikini daily. This obsession with bikinis turned into a hobby in high school, when she designed and sewed her first bikini.” That was just the beginning.

At the start of 2009, Molly decided to launch Molly B Bikinis and has held to the vision of creating a bikini line that complemented her simple beach lifestyle. She draws inspiration for her suits from the idyllic beaches and coves in La Jolla, to the lonely, time trapped beaches of Imperial Beach. Her love of surfing has taken her to exotic places like Fiji, Costa Rica, Panama, Baja and Mainland Mexico. She designs each piece with these adventures in mind, yet offers designs for every woman and their swimwear needs. She believes every girl should have a bikini collection similar to that of their shoes and purses. AMEN, Molly! :)

Every suit is handmade in San Diego using the finest materials available. Her dream is to have a company with core values that focus on Quality, Community, Responsibility and Spontaneity.

Molly B has a beautiful story of a life long dream and love for the ocean and the pieces we wear to enjoy it! I think the cutest part about this is that Molly is just a fun, loving Southern Californian who wants to give every other SoCal gal a hot suit to play in the water in!

Please check out Molly B Bikinis at MollyBBikinis.com and get a one of a kind suit today! Become a fan on Facebook or follow her on Twitter for latest style announcements and more! Seriously, nobody will have a suit like yours this summer! Especially like the custom one she made for me for my honeymoon later this year (you can’t miss it) - check out the few pieces she sent me, below!! XOXO!

P.S. Take a look at her darling packaging AND the second suit pictured! I about died when I received it - SUPER cute!

Even if I don’t buy anything, I love looking through the bins of door & drawer knobs, colorful cookware, romantic bathroom accessories, whimsical clothing and irresistibly smelling candles. Their newest calling: nautical! I love nautical everything! It just feels so fresh and sweet. Makes me want to live on a yacht! Check out their darling new nautical line!
