As some of you may know, my birthday is tomorrow and it marks a quarter century for my life. It’s kind of amazing and scary at the same time. For so long you want to just “grow up” and move on with your life - work on bigger things, meet more people, move around, explore the world, make a difference… But then one day you wake up and realize - wow, I’ve done it! I’ve accomplished SO much, met such amazing people, dealt with issues but got through them, worked (really) hard, traveled, fell in love…
So what’s next? Even though 25 is still such a young age - it’s exciting to think there’s SO much more out there! Sure, I look forward to being an even stronger woman, more confident, beautiful and seasoned but I don’t wish my life away. Look at how fast 25 years has gone, the next 25 will be even more rapid.
As I sit here typing away I reminisce about the last 25 years…
I remember being in EVERY school musical in high school and LOVING it. I loved music and being on stage. My freshman year I was in the chorus in Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Sophomore year I was again in the chorus for Phantom of the Opera, Junior year I was a (small) character in Grease and Senior I was the lead, Ariel in Footloose. What an AMAZING time in my life. My love for music and dance was fed through my presence onstage.
College was a whirlwind of change - moving to Chico, CA to attend CSU Chico for 2 years. I loved music so much that I wanted to produce and write music as a career. So I attended Chico State and pursued a degree in Recording Arts & Music Industry. That path changed as I came to the reality that I would have a tough time finding money in that line of work…and if I’m not cut throat I probably won’t make it. After 2 years of study at Chico I transferred myself to SDSU and pursued and finished a degree in Business Administration/Marketing. Even though I wasn’t studying music on a regular basis, I followed my passion for creativity and art by attending live shows, painting at home, going to art galleries, photography, health and fashion.
Now I’ve been in the business world since 2006 and I’m realizing THIS is the part of my life that is flying by the fastest! Weeks wash away so quickly at times that my head can’t stop spinning! How are we almost in February 09?!?! I remember my parents always saying “Just wait until you get older - your life will speed by” and I remember thinking “I can’t wait until I’m older”. How naive and young we once were, right?
So looking forward and contemplating on starting my research for Botox doctors (joking!) I take a deep breath and hold on tight for the ride ahead. Some things I’m going to do in the next year….
1) To slow down and cherish every moment whether it’s at work, home, with family, or alone. My time here is precious and I will cherish every single second God has given me.
2) To get more involved in music again. Whether it’s through private singing or piano lessons or singing at church.
3) To give back more of my time to the community. There are SO many organizations that need volunteer help in San Diego - beach cleanups, animal shelters, charity work.
4) To LIVE! So that when I look back 25 years from now I can laugh hysterically, cry out of passion and be reminded again of how “naive and young” I was… when I was 25.
